Ellie’s Cats

I’ve gotten so many sweet caring bittersweet comments in wake of Ellie’s passing. A humorous side of this is people have also noticed just how many videos/photos I have of Ellie with all her cats and the unique relationship she had with all of them. I wanted to take a moment to really highlight this as it’s something that really made Ellie unique and it often times it was as hilarious as it was sweet. So without further ado I present to you Ellie’s Cats.

Kima

I got Kima as a 2 month old kitten in the beginning of December 2015 and Ellie as a 2 month old puppy in March of 2016 so Kima is only slightly older and they grew up together. my older dog, Codee, was already 12 when I got them and even though she did play, she was definitely not as “receptive” to Ellie as Kima was. It was so much fun watching these twos relationship grow. Most of the videos/photos I have are basically Kima completely bullying Ellie but in reality they had a very beautiful mutual relationship and that was just their style, Kima was little even by normal cat standards so compared to Ellie she was teeny, but she made up for it in craziness. She was easily the coolest cat I’ve ever owned (yep I’m totally playing favorites sorry Channing and Meeka). Added bonus she is the only animal who actually played Fetch with me (Codee and Ellie were really enthusiastic about running after things and then playing no take backs though)

Channing and Meeka

I got Channing and Meeka as a brother and sister (yep swear they are full brother and sister). Their personalities were as different as their appearances. Channing was very outgoing and bossy- it was his world and we were there to shower him with love and attention. In his defense he is arguably the most handsome cat I’ve ever seen so the ego was probably inevitable.

Meeka on the other hand slinks around always watching, but rarely participating. She never really liked to be in my lap unless Channing also was there, but she’s always close by. Even when I would take Ellie on walks Meeka would often follow well behind, and if I turned around she’d take off only to pop up a little while a little.

  1. Okay, as usual, I had to scroll down and see the pictures in the videos. I tell you what, Ellie has to be the most patient tolerant gentle sweetest dog soul in the world. She just lets those cats do whatever they want and all she wants to do is just love them or rapper Paul around them and hug them. This last video where she just laid her head down on the sofa wanting the cats to play with her and they would just ignore her or bat around just broke my heart. And then she came over to you to get some loving. Just the sweetest dog in the world
And to have a cat who played b****? Are you kidding me? That was the most astounding thing I think I’ve ever seen a cat do. Okay, coming back, but just had to make a couple of comments real quick because it was so much fun to see Ellie and the cats again.

    1. I know that first meeting with channing and meeka broke my heart too- she so badly wanted them to be her friends. They came around very quickly though- I think they were curled up with her in less than 24 hours <3<3<3

  2. WOAH! I always knew that some dogs and cats could tolerate each other, but be play buddies too? Oh my dog never imagined in a million years a dog would be so tolerant of getting their fur pulled and swatted by a kitty! And a cat playing fetch? HUH?!!!

Ellie, Kima, Channing and Meeka were quite the team. Better than TV! What a blessing to have been surrounded by such gentle, playful, and loving creatures. Thank you for sharing.

    1. It’s funny as she aged, she never tired of them being all over her face like you see in the video, but she did start drawing the line at them making biscuits into her, she didn’t like that one bit and would kick em out if they did it very long.

  3. Oh Kima, you were one crazy cat! I remember picking her up after an extended bout with Ellie, soaking and as loose as a noodle. Good to see those images again. She really was Ellie’s cat.

  4. I love this so much! How great they got along so well. How many cats do you currently have? The ones in the videos are beautiful! We have 2 cats which are pretty old now . Both of our Great Pyrenees are good with them (but not quite buddies like Ellie with your cats). Our other dog (our first one) hates cats so we’ve always had to separate them.

    1. I only have Meeka now, with Ellie passing she is having to put up with me showering her with ALL the attention, and she’s simply not a fan it’s pretty funny to be honest- she has very clear boundaries I get about 30-60 seconds of “lovin” a day and that’s her limit, she has started perching up above my bed though, so maybe there’s hope.
